Cupping Technique

Cupping, a procedure involving the use of plastic cups, is commonly used on the back. Its purpose is to restore circulation and to pull out toxins from body tissue. Cups are placed on an area of the back. Using a small hand pump, the practitioner sucks the air out of the cups. This suction makes the skin rise up toward the valves. You will feel a tight sensation in the area of the cups. The cups may be left in place for 10-20 minutes.

 

 

Cupping causes the skin to turn red, blue or purple, especially if there is energetic blockage under the cups. The skin discoloration may last for a few days to a week.
